The Rushabh Shetrunjaya Tap stands as one of the most revered  spiritual practices in Jainism, representing a profound journey of self-purification and devotion. This sacred tapasya (austerity) spans six years and involves observing 108 Ekasana (single meal) observances, each meticulously planned and timed according to the lunar calendar. Named after Lord Rishabhanatha (Adinath), the first Tirthankara, and connected to the holy Shatrunjaya hills in Palitana, this practice embodies the essence of Jain spirituality and dedication.
This is done to mark the 500th Dhwaya of Shetrunjaya which is the holiest place for Jainism.

Understanding Tapasya in Jainism

Tapasya means restraint, which is done willingly by giving away some of the bodily comforts to discipline our minds from patience and pleasures. In Jainism, Tapas implies a control on desires, and is a form a self purification. The word 'tap' literally means 'to burn' - symbolizing the burning away of karmic impurities through voluntary self-discipline.

Tapasya is voluntary restrain from available things and/or desires so that the body suffers. It is self-discipline and penance to get Atmagyan. It is not to suppress indriyas but to gain victory over indriyas.

The Sacred Connection to Shatrunjaya

Shatrunjaya ("place of victory against inner enemies") also known as Pundarikgiri, is a range of hills located near the city of Palitana in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, India. This sacred location holds immense significance in Jainism as The Satrunjay Mahatirth, Palitana temples are considered the most sacred pilgrimage place (tirtha) by the Jain community.

The main temple on top of the hill, is dedicated to 1st tirthankar lordAdinath (Rishabdeva), establishing the direct connection between this tapasya and the sacred hill where Lord Rishabhanatha himself attained spiritual heights.
